Black River is seeking a Chief Legal Officer (CLO) to oversee our experienced worldwide legal team of five lawyers and one paralegal and provide legal services that complement the skills of the team. The CLO will function as a hands on lawyer, manager and senior management advisor.
Primary
Responsibilities:
Provide strategic direction, coaching and management of the Black River legal team
Perform legal work related to formation, sponsorship and management of hedge funds and other private investment funds
Draft, coordinate with counsel, prepare, and/or review operative documents for various private funds and managed accounts.
Review marketing materials, due diligence questionnaires and other client communications
Participate on a team of senior professionals that manages Black River's support infrastructure and provide advice to Black River senior management, board of directors and board committees.
Work with portfolio managers and other personnel on investment transactions
Provide preventative advice and training in areas such as securities law, regulatory compliance and investment management
Partner with Compliance on regulatory matters, with Human Resources on employee compensation and employment matters, as well as with the other functional managers (Technology, Investor Relations, Accounting, Risk Management and Finance) on related legal issues.
Coordinate and collaborate with other members of the Cargill Law Department and manage outside counsel

Qualifications:
JD degree with high academic performance (top 25% of law school class preferred)
A law degree and license to practice law with substantial experience in corporate, securities and regulatory law in a fund management practice, either at a law firm or in-house (minimum of 7 years, 10 years preferred)
High degree of integrity and ethics and excellent negotiation skills
Ability to effectively manage risk, understand business issues and apply judgment in counseling
Experience with hedge funds, venture capital funds and/or private equity funds
Experience negotiating, drafting and closing complex business transactions
Ability to successfully manage and coordinate multiple projects and legal matters
Ability to work independently, as well as in a team setting
Preferred
Qualifications:
Undergraduate or graduate degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics
Experience in broker/dealer or commodity regulation
Experience with non-U.S. financial regulations, particularly EU regulations
Experience with cross border investment transactions
Familiarity with tax planning concepts associated with the asset management and private equity investment industry
Experience managing a team of lawyers
Job: LegalEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
